Anthropic brings Claude inference to India via Amazon Bedrock

Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 4.5 can now run on servers inside India through AWS, meeting data residency needs of banks, insurers and government bodies as Anthropic deepens its presence in the market.

Anthropic has made its Claude models available with in-country inference in India through Amazon Bedrock, meaning requests sent to the India endpoint are processed on servers located within the country. Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Haiku 4.5 are live under the arrangement, which addresses a central requirement for Indian organisations that handle sensitive data.

The company describes India as one of its largest markets worldwide, with one of its most technically sophisticated developer communities. Local processing has been a recurring request from financial institutions, government bodies and large enterprises working under strict regulatory and data-handling rules. The launch follows an August pledge to bring Claude inference to India, which Anthropic calls a long-term investment.

Built for regulated sectors

Amazon Web Services says the capability is meant to help banks, insurers and public institutions move AI projects from pilot stages into full production while satisfying data residency obligations. Claude on Bedrock also offers audit trails and access controls that support risk and compliance teams.

Reliance and CRED tested the service during a private preview, pointing to lower latency, strong performance, resilience and the ability to keep data inside Indian borders. TCS, Kotak Bank, Mahindra Group, NPCI, the Data Security Council of India, Godrej Industries, Freshworks, Swiggy and Invideo also cited local processing, governance, security or performance as important factors. NPCI is building its AiNxt agentic AI platform on Claude, while DSCI uses Claude-powered agents for code, infrastructure and security reviews.

Widening footprint in India

Anthropic opened a Bengaluru office in February and has since grown its local team and partnerships. India has posted some of the highest sign-ups for the Claude Partner Network, and Indian firms appear across its Global Premier, Preferred and Select tiers. The first Claude Certification for Partners event in Bengaluru certified as many as 5,000 people.

Claude is already used by lenders including Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank and NPCI, and by IT services companies such as TCS, Infosys, Cognizant, LTM and LTTS. Other users include Reliance, Mahindra & Mahindra, Godrej Industries, CRED, Razorpay, Swiggy, Zomato, Invideo, Freshworks, Emergent, Rocket and Atlan. TCS is rolling it out to 50,000 associates, while Infosys has set up an Anthropic Centre of Excellence.

Beyond business, Anthropic says researchers and nonprofits use Claude too, including AI-for-Science projects on antivenom, vaccines, cancer and stellar physics, as well as public-interest work by Civis and Digital Green.
