The refreshed desktops bring Apple’s latest processors, expanded memory capacities, faster storage and upgraded connectivity, targeting users across AI, creative and professional workloads as the company strengthens its desktop portfolio ahead of its upcoming autumn event.
Apple has updated its Mac Mini and Mac Studio desktop computers with new processor options and hardware improvements, expanding its high-performance Mac portfolio ahead of its upcoming autumn product event. The refreshed models are set to arrive in India on September 22.
The new Mac Mini starts at Rs 99,900, while the Mac Studio has a starting price of Rs 2,79,900. Pre-orders are expected to open soon, giving customers access to the latest desktop configurations before the products officially go on sale.
The launch comes shortly before Apple’s autumn event, where the company is expected to introduce its next-generation iPhone lineup. The desktop refresh gives Apple an opportunity to update its computing range with greater processing capacity and hardware designed to handle increasingly demanding AI and professional workloads.
Mac Mini gets M6 and M5 Pro options
The new Mac Mini is offered with two processor choices: the M6 for general high-performance computing and the M5 Pro for users working with heavier applications and demanding workloads.
The M6 configuration features a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, with Neural Accelerators integrated into every GPU core. It also includes a dual 16-core Neural Engine. The system comes with 16GB of unified memory as standard and can be configured with up to 32GB, while memory bandwidth reaches 170GB/s.
Apple claims the M6 model can deliver up to four times faster AI performance, twice the graphics and storage performance and up to 40 per cent faster CPU performance compared with the previous generation.
The M5 Pro version raises the performance ceiling with up to an 18-core CPU and a 20-core GPU. It supports up to 64GB of unified memory and provides memory bandwidth of up to 307GB/s, while Neural Accelerators are included across its GPU cores.
Connectivity has also been upgraded. The Mac Mini supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and 2.5Gb Ethernet, with 10Gb Ethernet available as an option. The front includes two USB Type-C ports supporting USB 3 and a headphone jack. The rear offers three Thunderbolt 4 ports on the M6 model and three Thunderbolt 5 ports on the M5 Pro version, along with HDMI.
Mac Studio moves to M5 Max and M5 Ultra
The updated Mac Studio is available with M5 Max and M5 Ultra processors, targeting professional users with demanding computing requirements.
The M5 Max features an 18-core CPU comprising six super cores and 12 performance cores, along with a GPU configuration of up to 40 cores. Its unified memory bandwidth reaches up to 614GB/s.
The higher-end M5 Ultra configuration offers up to a 36-core CPU, consisting of 12 super cores and 24 performance cores, paired with an 80-core GPU. It supports up to 512GB of unified memory and provides bandwidth of up to 1.2TB/s.
Apple has also upgraded storage performance on the Mac Studio through a next-generation SSD architecture based on PCIe Gen 6. The company claims the new design delivers twice the storage speed of the previous generation.
The desktop supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 and can drive up to eight displays. Apple said users can connect up to four Studio Display XDR monitors simultaneously at 5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.
With the latest updates, Apple is increasing performance, memory and connectivity capabilities across its compact and professional desktop ranges. Both the refreshed Mac Mini and Mac Studio will be available in India from September 22.
