Apple’s latest iOS 26.1 update introduces a new transparency toggle for the Liquid Glass interface to improve text visibility, alongside enhanced accessibility, AirPods translation support, Music updates, and security improvements across the Apple ecosystem
Apple has officially rolled out iOS 26.1, addressing user concerns over legibility in its new Liquid Glass interface. The update introduces a transparency toggle, allowing users to switch between a clear or frosted visual mode for better text and icon readability.
The feature was first previewed during the iOS 26.1 beta phase, offering users two display styles — one retaining the signature translucent design and another that increases opacity for improved contrast. This update responds to feedback following iOS 26’s launch, where some users reported difficulty reading navigation elements like buttons and tabs.
Feature upgrades across Apple’s ecosystem
In addition to visual refinements, iOS 26.1 brings several functionality and performance improvements across Apple’s core apps and devices. The update expands Live Translation with AirPods to include Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Italian, enhancing Apple’s multilingual accessibility. The Apple Music MiniPlayer now supports swipe gestures for track navigation, while AutoMix compatibility has been extended to AirPlay.
Other key additions include manual workout logging in the Fitness app, gain control for USB microphones, and a new Camera setting to disable Lock Screen quick access. FaceTime also sees improved audio stability in low-bandwidth conditions.
For families, Apple has strengthened Communication Safety by automatically enabling web filters and adult content blocks for users aged 13–17, depending on regional settings.
Apple has simultaneously released updates to iPadOS 26.1, macOS Tahoe 26.1, watchOS 26.1, visionOS 26.1, and tvOS 26.1, ensuring a consistent and seamless user experience across its ecosystem.
