As per the latest update, it has been revealed that state-owned telecom firms, MTNL and BSNL, are likely to launch new roaming plans starting from January 26 that will offer their subscribers free calls.
Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal is likely to announce the new roaming plan scheme within the next couple of days. Here, it is worth noticing that Kapil Sibal has asked the PSUs back in November to come up with a free roaming scheme.
MTNL plans to make roaming free for its customers in Delhi and Mumbai. MTNL's Mumbai customers will not have to pay any extra charge when they travel to Delhi. The same scheme will apply to its Delhi customers also.
However, BSNL will also have a roaming plan for free calls, but its customers may have to shell out Re1 a day to avail the facility. The schemes are likely to be in place from January 26.
According to data released by the telecom regulator TRAI, BSNL has 9.78 crore mobile subscribers, while MTNL has 35.75 lakh customers on its network.
