Cisco acquires Ubiquisys for $310 million

The networking company Cisco is mulling to acquire Ubiquisys. If reports are to be believed, Cisco will spend roughly $310 million (£205m) in the deal.

It is worth noticing here that Ubiquisys is a privately held and UK-based manufacturer of 3G and 4G small-cell technologies for mobile networks.

Kelly Ahuja, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Mobility Business Group, Cisco said, "Cisco is 'doubling down' on its small-cell business to accelerate strong momentum and growth in the mobility market. By acquiring Ubiquisys, we are expanding on our current mobility leadership and our end-to-end product portfolio, which includes integrated, licensed and unlicensed small-cell solutions that are tightly coupled with SON, backhaul, and the mobile packet core."

Kelly also adds that this will help Cisco to reduce reliance on third parties for small-cell expertise, and fills out its product suite in targeting the carrier market.

It is reportedly said that Ubiquisys' product portfolio and team will be integrated into its Small Cell Technology Group led by Partho Mishra. With the latest acquisition, these firms can offer improved experience to end-users and enterprises .

The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2013.
