VMware has announced that CMI FPE has implemented VMware vSphere 4, at the vSeminar Series in Mumbai. VMware’s application had aided the Mumbai-headquartered CMI FPE to overcome the limitations of its physical server and improve the performance of the company’s SAP Application threefold.
By implementing VMware vSphere 4, CMI FPE has been able to overcome all sorts of outages of its physical infrastructure which constricted the company’s performance. Providing smoother performance of the SAP application, VMware has improved CMI FPE's overall business functionalities - ranging from the company’s sales and distribution to accounting to the management departments. The prime highlights of the implementation include a 4:1 server consolidation ratio and above all improving the utilization rate of server hardware from 10-15% to an unbelievable 70-80%.
Speaking at the vSeminar Series, Vijay Karayi, Director, Management Assurance, Quality Management Systems and Chief Information Officer, CMI FPE, said, "We had been running SAP ECC5 on a small cluster of ageing servers – if one of these experienced an outage, we would experience a huge performance degradation." "We would also have to take SAP down for a while once the server was repaired to ensure we could bring the application back up across the entire cluster. The cluster would have to be reconfigured".
T. Srinivasan, Managing Director, VMware India & SAARC, said, "It is implementations like these that reinforce our belief in our products and confirm we are on the right track. We are very pleased to be their virtualization technology provider of choice for their mission critical application - SAP ECC5."
As a first step to adopt virtualization, CMI FPE upgraded its operating systems and databases to 64-bit Windows Server and Microsoft SQL Server 2008, respectively. Moving one step further, the company shifted its 32-bit SAP ECC5 system to the VMware-based infrastructure prior to the migration to SAP ECC6 on a 64-bit platform. "Excellent coordination and support from VMware minimized the hassles of the entire process of migration, proving itself as a remarkable customer-centric company," said Vijay Karayi.
