Gorilla Glass Ceramic offers enhanced durability over aluminosilicate glass, surviving ten consecutive one-meter drops onto an asphalt-like surface in lab tests, whereas competing materials shattered upon the first impact
Corning has unveiled Gorilla Glass Ceramic, a new addition to its renowned Gorilla Glass lineup, designed to provide superior durability and scratch resistance for smartphones and other consumer electronics. Motorola is set to be the first brand in India to introduce a device featuring this next-generation glass technology.
Unlike traditional aluminosilicate glass, Gorilla Glass Ceramic is engineered to be tougher against drops and impacts. According to Corning, the material survived ten consecutive drops from a height of one meter onto an asphalt-like surface in lab tests, whereas competing materials cracked on the first impact. However, Corning has not disclosed specific details regarding the comparative materials used in testing.
Motorola pioneers Gorilla Glass Ceramic
Motorola, a long-time partner of Corning, has confirmed that it will debut a Gorilla Glass Ceramic-equipped device in the coming months. While the exact product type remains undisclosed, industry speculation suggests it could be a flagship smartphone. This follows Motorola’s recent expansion of its partnership with Corning, with a commitment to incorporating Gorilla Glass across its entire product portfolio.
Gorilla Glass Ceramic marks a significant advancement in smartphone protection, combining the strength of glass with ceramic-like properties to enhance scratch resistance, optical clarity, and durability. With Motorola leading the adoption, more manufacturers may follow suit, setting a new standard for premium device protection in the industry.
