Delhi CM unveils DSSDI Project for Effective Urban Management

Delhi Chief Minister Ms Sheila Dikshit has unveiled the Portal of Delhi State Spatial Data Infrastructure (DSSDI) project at the ongoing India International Trade Fair (IITF’09). The project is a unique urban management system, the first of its kind to be introduced in the country. It is being executed by Navayuga Spatial Technologies Pvt. Ltd.

The occasion also proved to be an opportunity for the conferring of best e-governed State Award to the Delhi Government by VARIndia, the frontline IT magazine of India. The Award was presented by Mr Deepak Sahu, Director, VARIndia, to Ms Sheila Dikshit.

DSSDI project undertaken in collaboration with the Survey of India through Geographical Information System (GIS) creates a three-dimensional map of all the structures in the city from residential houses to overground and underground public utilities. Mapping of these units will help policy-makers know the loopholes, if any, in the facilities available in terms of the need of the resident, residing in a particular area. It will be of further help to all the civic bodies like the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Delhi Jal Board, BRPL and BSES to rectify their shortcomings to serve the public better.

Besides, a comprehensive Land Information System (LIS) containing records of land and property is also being created, which will be made available on the digital platform, making registration and mutation of property much more convenient for the citizens. As part of the project, 63 wireless cameras with a range of five km are being installed at strategic points to monitor illegal constructions and encroachments.

The project comes at a time when the Capital is gearing up to host the Commonwealth Games next year and thus becomes a part of the preparations for the mega event. Being developed by a team of 1,500 professionals, it aims at integrated management and seamless coordination between various government departments and agencies to achieve the highest standards of governance.

It is envisaged that once this project is put in place, it will make Delhi one of the best-governed cities in the world.
