Bangladesh has finally lifted a week-long ban on Facebook and made it accessible to its users. The country has become the second South Asian nation after Pakistan to ban the popular site over religious concerns. The ban was imposed on Facebook in Bangladesh, following some objectionable images of Islam's Prophet Muhammad.
Since, Muslims regard depictions of the Prophet, even favourable ones, as blasphemous, the Bangladesh Government imposed the ban.
"The Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission ordered access to Facebook restored around midnight Saturday, and the site was available on Sunday," said the Commission's Chairman, Zia Ahmed. Facebook had removed the objectionable page.
