Freekapda.com is an initiative launched by four students from IIT, Delhi. One of the important pillars of the project, Sanil Sondhi says, "Freekapda.com is the place where you can help provide clothes to people who actually need them. We have begun with the registrations on the website."
Explaining his motive, Sondhi says, "Freekapda.com is on a mission to distribute 1 crore T-shirts to the people who actually need them. People generally ask why we do it online. The obvious answer is that it promotes transparency in the process. People investing in the project know where their money is being invested eventually. The website has been designed keeping in mind these transparency issues. For instance, if an individual purchases a T-shirt from the website, he can see the count increasing by one."
The mission will be executed in phases all across the nation. Sondhi adds, "There will be a map of India on the site which will disclose what areas have been covered, where we are presently and where do we plan to move in future."
The entrepreneurs have planned to rope in some genuine NGOs and people who are working for the needy segment of the society. Sondhi explains, "We are trying to look for community support to make this social movement a success and a sustainable platform devoted to social and community welfare. NGOs, schools and other institutions involved in social causes can partner with us to reach the needy. We will provide them with free T-shirts to distribute. The idea is to ensure perfect transparency in the entire process."
A T-shirt will cost Rs.500 (tentative pricing), which will be used to clothe four more people. "If you buy one T-shirt, you are helping four more people to get clothes," Sondhi shares.
