A pair of new Technology startups Glance and DailyHunt, that feed personalized news and entertainment to the world's fastest-growing smartphone population have got investments from Google. The idea behind for investment is to push into the world’s second-largest internet market.
Â
Glance, which feeds news and sports scores to phone-lock screens, is said to have reached a valuation of more than $1 billion after completing a funding round led by Google. And VerSe Innovation Pvt, the owner of Josh app, said it passed that threshold after winning more than $100 million from Google and Microsoft Corp.
Â
Glance, which is part of advertising giant InMobi Group, uses AI to offer personalized experience to its users. Late last year, InMobi acquired Roposo, a Gurgaon-headquartered startup, that has enabled it to introduce short-form videos on the platform. Google is also investing in Roposo.
Â
Roposo is a short-video platform with more than 33 million monthly active users. These users spend about 20 minutes consuming content across multiple genres in more than 10 languages on the app everyday.
Â
A report says, Glance ships pre-installed on several smartphone models and supplies to the major mobile phones OEMs including Samsung and Xiaomi and its service has amassed over 115 million daily active users.
