Govt may soon bring rules for Work from Home from next year

With new variants of the coronavirus detected and the future of office work seems bleak, remote work is the way to go and will probably stay here longer. Keeping this in mind, the central government has come up with a comprehensive plan to build a legal structure focusing on defining employer responsibilities for telecommuting employees.

This includes a telecommuting model and a hybrid working model in which employees have to go to the office for a certain number of days a week. The center is considering fixing employees’ working hours and paying additional internet and electricity costs by working from home.

The development comes even as the central government announced strict measures for workplaces and said companies should follow work from home as far as possible and have staggered work hours.

“A consultancy firm is being roped in to determine the future of work in the backdrop of the pandemic and the benefits it brings to stakeholders,” said an official. The new structure will be asked to be followed by all sectors.
