The initiative aims to transform complex scientific research into easy-to-understand digital content, expanding public access while strengthening India’s research ecosystem through mission-driven programmes and wider stakeholder collaboration.
The government is advancing plans to develop an artificial intelligence-driven platform that will simplify complex scientific research into easily consumable social media content. The initiative, being led by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), is part of a broader push to make science more accessible and relevant to the general public.
The progress of the initiative was reviewed by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, who emphasised the need to bridge the gap between scientific research and society. He highlighted that research outcomes must be communicated in simple formats so that citizens can better understand their practical value and impact.
At the centre of this effort is SARAL AI, an upcoming AI-based platform designed to convert complex research papers, patents, and technical findings into user-friendly formats such as podcasts, short videos, presentations, and social media posts. The platform will support dissemination in 18 Indian languages, significantly expanding outreach across diverse audiences.
Focus on mission-driven research and societal impact
Alongside the AI initiative, ANRF is scaling its mission-oriented programmes under the ‘MAHA’ (Mission for Advancement in High Impact Areas) framework. These programmes are structured to deliver measurable outcomes in priority sectors by fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government.
A new programme focused on “Leapfrog Demonstrators for Societal Innovation” is also being planned. It will support the rapid development of scalable, technology-led solutions targeting critical challenges such as climate change, disaster management, sustainable agriculture, public health, and infrastructure.
The Foundation has seen strong engagement from the research community, with nearly 20,000 proposals evaluated in recent months under key funding schemes, indicating growing participation in India’s innovation ecosystem.
Expanding access and streamlining research processes
To further enhance visibility and engagement, ANRF has launched initiatives such as the PMECRG Lightning Talk Series, enabling researchers to present their work in concise and engaging formats. The Foundation is also encouraging young scientists to leverage digital platforms for wider outreach.
Efforts are underway to simplify research processes through the appointment of nodal officers across institutions, aimed at reducing administrative hurdles and supporting project execution. Additionally, new communication channels have been introduced to provide real-time updates and improve accessibility for the research community.
The initiative reflects the government’s broader strategy to democratise scientific knowledge, accelerate innovation, and ensure that research outcomes are effectively translated into societal benefits.
