HTC Corp has announced that it is buying Abaxia by paying €11 million ($13.2 million). Abaxia is a nine-year-old company that specializes in developing mobile software for telecommunication-network operators and mobile-phone makers. The new deal follows HTC's December 2008 acquisition of San Francisco-based One & Co.
The deal will be instrumental to HTC to enhance its software and design capabilities. As analysts have pointed out that software is becoming more important in smartphones with their content and functions becoming even more sophisticated than traditional phones, this acquisition of Abaxia might help HTC in constructing its own application store.
"The addition of Paris-based Abaxia will "deepen and broaden our software-development capabilities so that we can innovate at an even faster pace," said Peter Chou, chief executive of HTC.
