India’s traditional PC market posted its strongest quarter on record in Q3 2025, with shipments rising 10.1% year-over-year to 4.9 million units, according to new data from IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker. The performance surpassed the previous high of 4.5 million units set in Q3 2024, marking a milestone quarter for desktops, notebooks and workstations.
Growth was broad-based across all categories. Notebooks, which continue to dominate the market, rose 9.5% compared to a year earlier. Desktop shipments increased 11.6%, reflecting steady enterprise and government demand, while workstations recorded the fastest expansion at 14.2%. The premium notebook segment—priced above US$1,000—also strengthened, growing 8.5% on the back of sustained interest from both consumers and businesses seeking higher-performance devices.
AI-enabled notebooks emerged as the standout driver of growth. Shipments jumped 126.5% year-over-year, fuelled by a mix of hardware-enabled AI features and rising adoption of next-generation models. Basic AI notebooks accounted for nearly 86% of all AI notebook shipments, supported by aggressive discounts and cashback offers, while advanced AI notebooks crossed the 100,000-unit mark for the first time in a single quarter.
Momentum was strong across both commercial and consumer segments. The commercial market grew 11.4% year-over-year, helped by ongoing enterprise refresh cycles and rising demand among small and medium businesses. SMBs were particularly active, with small offices expanding 18.8% and medium-sized firms growing 13.1%.
The consumer market, meanwhile, reached an all-time high of 2.8 million units. Vendors stocked up ahead of an early festive season, and online platforms delivered their best quarter ever with nearly one million notebook shipments. Bharath Shenoy, research manager at IDC India & South Asia, said evolving buying behaviour played a major role. He noted that consumers increasingly defer purchases until major online festivals, prompting vendors to reduce Q2 shipments and build inventory for a three-wave sales period extending from late September to early November.
Across vendors, HP maintained its leadership with a 26.6% market share. The company dominated the commercial segment but saw a year-over-year decline in consumer sales amid strong competition and the ongoing transition to its new OmniBook lineup. Lenovo held second place with an 18% share, buoyed by strong growth across both consumer and commercial channels. Acer ranked third with a 15% share, benefitting from an e-commerce-led push in the entry-level notebook space and leadership in commercial desktops. Dell followed with 14.6%, showing improvement after several muted quarters, while Asus rounded out the top five at 10.2%, achieving its best-ever commercial performance and a strong showing in the consumer market.
Looking ahead, analysts expect the market to remain healthy. Navkendar Singh, associate vice president at IDC India, South Asia & ANZ, said enterprise deployment cycles—particularly Windows refresh programs—will continue to drive commercial volumes. However, he cautioned that channel inventory corrections in the SMB segment and processor supply constraints could affect short-term shipments. On the consumer side, elevated inventory levels may prompt temporary adjustments, but demand for notebooks is expected to stay resilient through the first half of 2026.
India’s PC industry appears positioned for sustained momentum, supported by strong enterprise technology spending, rising AI adoption and continued consumer appetite for performance-driven notebooks.
