After a series of meetings between the Indian Government and BlackBerry, it seems time has come for signing a deal on corporate email. According to the latest update, the country's law-enforcement agencies would soon be able to keep a check on emails sent/received via BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) over BlackBerry devices.
A spokesperson of BlackBerry said, The Company had delivered a solution that will enable India's wireless carriers to address their lawful access requirements for its consumer messaging services. The lawful access capability now available to BlackBerry's carrier partners meets the standard required by the Government of India for all consumer messaging services offered in the Indian marketplace. We also wish to underscore, once again, that this enablement of lawful access does not extend to BlackBerry Enterprise Server.
It is expected that the Government will soon sign an official agreement with BlackBerry and acquire its monitoring architecture installed at Mumbai.
According to the agreement which is to be signed between the Indian Government and BlackBerry, the company will also train five government officials to handle company’s technical architecture, operation and maintenance of the monitoring facility at its Ontario facility.
