To emerge as an important technology in the coming years, Intel is putting its money on parallelism.
Phil de la Zerda, Director (Sales & Business Development), Developer Products Division, Intel said, "Parallelism will be a core part of our strategy in the future. We will continue to evolve product like the parallel studio (a parallel computing development tool) and plan to get the smaller developers interested in parallel processing. Parallel processing is not only about performance gain, it is also about the functionality that will enable the developers to include in their applications. By improving the method in which applications use processing power, developers will be able to cram more value."
Currently, Intel has developer suites for Windows, Linux, and iOS operating systems. The company's plan is to evolve the technology to give more options to developers. De la Zerda informed that the company is experimenting with the cloud computing model to determine if it can be used to easily deliver their developer products to customers. However, the problem, according to him, is that no one has yet figured out how to use cloud computing for development tools.
Intel Parallel Studio 2011 is developed especially for Windows OS and Microsoft Visual Studio. It includes the Parallel Advisor component, which provides step-by-step guidance to developers when it comes to threading. The Advisor will also go through code and suggest those which can most benefit from parallel programming.
