The consumer's experience of viewing video content on mobile phones is set for a paradigm change with Jigsee's technology. It will enable Indian mobile users to access premium video content on a normal no-frills mobile phone at absolutely no cost. Mobile video streaming start-up, Jigsee, includes smooth streaming technology helps deliver continuous video flow on wireless data networks as slow as 50 Kbps. It is combined with the company's smart client technology which makes video streaming possible even on phones with basic features.
As over 90% of Indian mobile users have access to only feature phones, it translates into a potential audience of over 500 million. These mobile subscribers have so far been unable to access streaming services such as YouTube.To begin with, a few hundred Java-enabled mobile handset models will support the Jigsee application. The plan is to support most phones, including those with the Android operating system over a period of time. Jigsee is in talks with handset makers to embed their phones with the Jigsee application.
Content genres available on Jigsee include trailers, scenes, songs from Bollywood movies, as well as news and events related to films. Short films and documentaries also find place on Jigsee. Besides devotional content, there is also trendy content on Fashion, Lifestyle and, meditational Yoga.From August 15, Jigsee Beta is available for download at half a dozen app stores, including OVI, Cellmania (Tata Docomo, Airtel), Appia (Opera, Mobile2day).
