Infrastructure giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) plans to commission 18 MW of data centre capacity by the end of March. This will take its total operational capacity to 32 MW by the close of the current fiscal year. The total capital expenditure for the data centre is estimated at around ₹1,000 crores. Currently, 14 MW of the data centre capacity is operational, with the remaining 18 MW set to come online by fiscal year-end.
On the semiconductor front, L&T is focusing on design-led chips and engaging with multiple customers. Most of the company’s semiconductor spending is being recorded through the profit and loss account, the official added.
In the electrolyser business, L&T has developed a fully indigenous 4 MW stack and is upgrading it to an 8–10 MW stack, with significant orders expected in the near term.
The company reported a 4.2% drop in consolidated profit after tax (PAT) to ₹3,215 crore in the December quarter, compared with ₹3,359 crore in the year-ago period. The decline was largely due to a one-time provision of ₹1,191 crore for employee benefits arising from the implementation of new labour codes, classified under exceptional items.
