MediaTek debuts 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro in India, raising the bar for flagship smartphone chips

At its Tech Day in Delhi, MediaTek launched the 2nm Dimensity 9600 Pro and 9600M chipsets built for agentic AI, gaming and imaging, with OPPO's Find X10 Pro Max set to be the first Indian phone to use the flagship chip.

MediaTek unveiled the Dimensity 9600 Pro at its Tech Day in Delhi, themed "The Next Leap." The company describes the chipset as one of the first built on the 2nm process node, and says its new Native AI architecture is designed to bring agentic AI experiences to smartphones. Alongside it, MediaTek introduced the Dimensity 9600M. The company says the first smartphones powered by both chips are expected to launch this quarter.

Chip focuses on power efficiency, on-device AI and gaming

MediaTek says the Dimensity 9600 Pro uses a 2+3+3 all-big-core CPU design, with two C2-Ultra cores at up to 4.55GHz, three C2-Pro cores at 4.35GHz and three more C2-Pro cores at 3.1GHz. The company claims up to 17% higher single-core and 15% higher multi-core performance than the previous generation, along with a 61% cut in multi-core power consumption.

On the AI front, the chip has a dual-NPU architecture and the Dimensity Agentic AI Engine. MediaTek says its 2nd-gen Super-Efficient NPU lowers always-on AI power consumption by 40%, while the NPU 1090 delivers 51% higher LLM prefill performance and 55% higher token generation per watt, and supports models of up to 30B parameters. The company says this moves AI from a passive responder to a proactive companion that perceives context, anticipates needs and coordinates across apps securely.

For gaming, the G2-Ultra NX GPU is claimed to offer up to 27% higher peak performance, 24% lower power consumption and 18% faster ray tracing, enabling gameplay at up to 185fps. On imaging, the Imagiq 1290 ISP and AI Imaging Fusion Architecture support 60fps motion capture, 4K240 slow-motion video, 4K60 AI True Color Tone, 4K120 cinematic log and 17EV imaging.

The Dimensity 9600M, introduced alongside, uses the same Agentic AI Engine and the Dimensity Scheduling Engine, and MediaTek says it also supports gameplay at up to 185fps through HyperEngine.

"AI is central to the smartphone experience, and devices need greater performance, efficiency, and intelligence to keep pace with rapidly evolving user demands," said JC Hsu, corporate senior vice president at MediaTek and general manager of the Wireless Communications Business Unit. "The Dimensity 9600 Pro meets these demands with a Native AI architecture and dual improvement in performance and power efficiency to deliver new agentic AI experiences."

OPPO Find X10 Pro Max to be first in India

Goldee Patnaik, Head of Communications, OPPO India, delivered a keynote on the upcoming OPPO Find X10 Series, which will be powered by the Dimensity 9600 Pro. The OPPO Find X10 Pro Max will be the first smartphone in India to feature the chip.

Representatives from OPPO, Samsung, Xiaomi, vivo, Realme, Nothing, OnePlus, Tecno, Infinix, Motorola and iQOO attended, along with media and analysts. Demo zones showcased current devices on MediaTek chips, including the OPPO Find X9s (Dimensity 9500s), Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Series (Dimensity 9500), Xiaomi 17T (Dimensity 8500 Ultra), Tecno Pova 8 Pro (Dimensity 7400 Ultimate), vivo T5 5G (Dimensity 7500 Turbo) and Realme 16 Pro (Dimensity 7300 Max).

Speaking at the event, Anuj Sidharth, Director, Marketing and Corporate Communication, MediaTek India and SEA Region, said consumer AI agents are expected to be a primary volume driver in the emerging token economy. "With the launch of the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro, we are bringing the next generation of flagship technology to India. Built on the 2nm process with a Native AI Architecture, the chipset brings agentic AI, gaming and imaging capabilities together with improved power efficiency, enabling our partners to create new smartphone experiences for consumer," he said. "These experiences will only deepen as the token economy grows and the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro gives our partners a platform ready for what comes next."

Panel debates whether AI will decide the next flagship

Tracy Hsiao, Senior Product Manager, MediaTek Wireless Communication Business Group, outlined the flagship capabilities of the Dimensity 9600 Pro, while Thomas Ho, Senior Director of the same group, explained how the Dimensity 7000 and 8000 series are bringing AI to more price tiers.

A panel titled "Will AI Decide Your Next Flagship?", moderated by Sidharth, featured Tarun Pathak of Counterpoint Research, Faisal Kawoosa of Techarc, Prabhu Ram of CMR and Raghavan Sampath of MediaTek India. The discussion explored how AI is reshaping performance, imaging, gaming and everyday use, and how buyer priorities are shifting toward on-device intelligence and privacy over traditional specifications.
