MeitY Additional Secretary emphasizes the need to build trust in emerging technology like AI
2025-04-02
Abhishek Singh, the Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), recently highlighted the importance of building trust in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI).
He compared this challenge to the initial public hesitation and skepticism surrounding the use of aircraft technology.
Just as people took time to trust and understand the safety, benefits, and potential of air travel, AI, too, requires a similar process of gaining public confidence, he said.
In his statement, Singh pointed out that, much like how rigorous safety measures, regulations, and proof of reliability helped the aviation industry gain trust, AI must go through a similar process of demonstrating its reliability, transparency, and ethical considerations. Establishing trust in AI would involve clear frameworks for its responsible use, robust regulatory mechanisms, and continuous efforts to showcase its value to society while addressing concerns about misuse or unintended consequences.
Singh's comments reflect the growing recognition of the need to approach AI development carefully and thoughtfully, ensuring it is trusted by users, businesses, and governments. This approach would ensure AI's positive impact on various sectors, including healthcare, education, finance, and governance, much like how the aviation industry became an essential and trusted part of global infrastructure.
