Meta Platforms is set to revive its smartwatch project, originally started in 2021, with an advanced AI-powered wearable expected to debut at Meta Connect 2025 (September 17–18). According to media speculations, the upcoming Meta smartwatch could complement the company’s growing wearable ecosystem, which includes Ray-Ban smart glasses and Meta Quest VR headsets.
Originally codenamed “Milan”, the first prototype featured a curved display, front-facing camera, and physical control buttons. Later versions showcased a dual-camera setup with 5MP and 10MP sensors and a premium gold-colored casing. The device appeared to focus more on environmental interaction than traditional smartwatch functions like fitness tracking. However, the project was shelved in 2022 due to hardware limitations and challenges with its nerve-signal-based control system.
Now, Meta seems ready to push forward with an AI-driven smartwatch that prioritizes real-time interaction, spatial awareness, and camera integration—a stark contrast to conventional wearables like the Apple Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch. This aligns with Meta’s broader AI and augmented reality (AR) vision, potentially turning the smartwatch into an extension of the user’s digital and physical world.
Huaqin Technology, a leading Chinese electronics manufacturer, has been identified as the production partner for this highly anticipated wearable. While reports suggest a September reveal, DigiTimes notes there’s still uncertainty about its official debut at Meta Connect.
If launched, this Meta smartwatch could mark a pivotal step in AI-enhanced wearables, offering features beyond health monitoring—possibly integrating real-time AI interactions, environmental interpretation, and seamless connectivity with other Meta devices. With AI integration, dual cameras, and a focus on immersive experiences, Meta’s upcoming smartwatch could redefine the wearable tech market, intensifying competition against leading brands.
