Motorola to knock India again

It seems Motorola, which stopped selling its phones in the Indian market two years back, is all set to start a second inning in the Indian market. As per the latest update, Motorola will make a re-entry into the Indian market with the launch of Moto G smartphone in January 2014.

It is reportedly said that the new Moto G is a 4.5-inch smartphone with 720P HD resolution and a quad-core processor running at 1.2GHz. As far as the storage is concerned, it is equipped with 8GB internal storage (16GB version also available) and 1GB RAM. For capturing merry moments of life, it has 5MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front camera.

According to the company officials, the low-cost Moto G has been specifically designed for developing markets like India. In the US, the Moto G smartphone is priced at $179 (around Rs.11,500/-). The Indian price is expected to be far less than Rs.15,000/-.

"Most people in the world can't afford a phone worth $500 or $600. The average smartphone price nowadays is around $200. But the problem is that the experience that the phones provided in this class are really bad. These (affordable) smartphones are slow, buggy and their screens are too small. In the next one year, over 500 million consumers will buy a smartphone that costs less than $200. We believe half a billion people deserve better," said Denis Woodside, CEO, Motorola Mobility.

Woodside also added that Motorola never left India and one of the company’s largest international offices is still in India.

Well! Whether Motorola would be able to re-establish itself in the Indian snartphone market or not, it is difficult to say anything for now. Let time decide it. Till then, stay hooked to varindia.com for any updates on this.
