In a strategic push to bolster its presence in India, NXP Semiconductors has initiated plans for a second R&D hub in Greater Noida’s Semiconductor Park. This move comes under the Dutch chipmaker’s ambitious $1 billion investment plan in India, reinforcing the country’s role as a key innovation center in its global operations. In a strategic push to bolster its presence in India, NXP Semiconductors has initiated plans for a second R&D hub in Greater Noida’s Semiconductor Park. This move comes under the Dutch chipmaker’s ambitious $1 billion investment plan in India, reinforcing the country’s role as a key innovation center in its global operations. The upcoming NXP Greater Noida center will serve as a hub for advanced research and system innovation, particularly in cutting-edge technologies like automotive semiconductors.
Strong Government Collaboration and Site Selection
The announcement follows a series of high-level engagements between NXP CEO Kurt Sievers and government officials. Sievers met with the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister during the Semicon India 2024 event, reaffirming NXP's commitment to deepening its India operations. Follow-up discussions in October 2024 further solidified the company's expansion agenda. Currently, NXP India is in advanced talks with the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) to acquire land in Sector 10 of Greater Noida for the new facility.
Strategic Focus: Innovation and Workforce Growth
The planned NXP R&D hub in Greater Noida will focus on next-generation technologies, including the company's newly unveiled 5-nanometer automotive chip, which positions NXP at the forefront of semiconductor innovation. The facility will include lab infrastructure, system innovation zones, and collaborative research areas to support both hardware and software development.
In line with the expansion, NXP India aims to double its workforce from 3,000 to over 6,000 employees in the next five years. Notably, over 80% of NXP’s current Indian employees are design engineers, underscoring the country’s strength as a talent hub for global semiconductor innovation.

The NXP investment in 2025 is part of a broader strategy to align with India’s semiconductor mission, which seeks to transform the country into a global electronics and chip manufacturing powerhouse.
