OnePlus and Snapchat come together to bring Diwali cheer in the time of social distancing
2020-11-13
To celebrate the festival of lights with its Indian community all over the world, OnePlus, a global technology brand, has launched a special Diwali campaign in collaboration with Snapchat. Keeping in mind the norms of social distancing, the brands have come together to create special Augmented Reality Lens that will allow users to share the joy of Diwali from the safety and comfort of their homes.
The special Snapchat Lens will help transform festive wishes into Bubbles of positivity that can be released into the sky alongside virtual fireworks and Diwali greetings. OnePlus has always believed that technology can bring people together and this is exceptionally important as we gear up for Diwali, one of India’s largest festivals.
Commenting on the new campaign, Siddhant Narayan, Head of Marketing, OnePlus India said, “As a brand that is dedicated to its community we have leveraged technology to bring our global user base together and share the love forward this Diwali. Through this campaign with Snapchat, we wanted to enable users across the world to celebrate the festival of lights in a safe and secure manner during the time of social distancing. In the wake of the pandemic, we also aim to share the message of hope with our global community as we prepare to celebrate one of India’s biggest festivals.”
Prashant Halbe, Creative Strategy Lead, Snap India, commented on the initiative, saying, "Our focus at Snapchat is to drive meaningful connections through unique, creative experiences. This is our second year working with OnePlus for Diwali and in this challenging year we wanted to use Augmented Reality to bring Snapchatters together virtually. By partnering with OnePlus and using hand recognition technology we hope that this special Diwali AR campaign will allow us to spread a little more happiness and positivity even when it's not possible to be together in person."
Through the collaboration, OnePlus and Snapchat hope to give users a platform to celebrate with their friends and families despite not having the opportunity to be together. The campaign will transcend boundaries, cultures and locations bring people together using the power of technology to keep people connected during the time of social distancing.

OnePlus's Snapchat’s AR Lenses is live from 11 November 2020 and will be available to Snapchatters across India
Here’s how the experience works: When Snapchatters open the lens, they will be presented with words of positivity, such as Peace, Joy, Hope etc. to send out to their loved ones this Diwali
Upon selecting the words, they will be prompted to ‘Open your palm to release the wishes’
Snapchat’s Hand Gesture recognition technology will then allow them to release these words, seeing them float up to the sky and form part of a custom Diwali message to share with their friends and family members
About The Campaign Film
OnePlus has always believed the power of technology to transcend distances and connect people across the world. This campaign reiterates this belief by enabling users to celebrate the joy of Diwali amidst these unprecedented times with their dear ones by sharing words of love along with Diwali greetings that light up in festive fireworks with the help of Snapchat’s AR Lens. When users open the lens on Snapchat, they are presented with words of positivity they can choose to release into the world. Upon choosing the words, the AR lens then prompts the user to open their palms to see the words magically appear floating out of the palm and rise to the sky, where the words explode in a beautiful display of fireworks to accompany a ‘Happy Diwali’ message.
