The two Oppo-linked smartphone brands are said to be consolidating marketing, services, and product operations into a unified structure, signalling a strategic overhaul aimed at improving efficiency and strengthening their global market position.
OnePlus and Realme are reportedly moving toward an operational merger, according to industry leakster Digital Chat Station on Weibo. The two smartphone brands are said to be consolidating their domestic (China) and global operations into a newly formed “sub-product center.” This restructuring is expected to bring marketing, services, and product planning under a more unified framework, signalling a deeper alignment within the broader Oppo ecosystem.
New leadership structure and centralised control
As per the report, Li Jie, President of OnePlus China, is likely to head this combined product centre. He will reportedly report directly to Pete Lau, founder of OnePlus and current CEO, indicating a tighter hierarchical structure for decision-making. The proposed changes are expected to streamline operations and reduce duplication across both brands, which have traditionally operated with distinct identities despite being part of the same corporate family.
The development also comes amid speculation about OnePlus’s long-term positioning in key markets, including Europe and India. While no official confirmation has been issued, the restructuring is being viewed as an attempt to strengthen operational efficiency and global competitiveness amid increasing pressure in the premium smartphone segment.
From independent brands to unified ecosystem strategy
Historically, OnePlus was founded in 2013 by Pete Lau and Carl Pei, and later became part of the BBK Electronics ecosystem, alongside Oppo. Realme, meanwhile, was launched in 2018 as a separate brand and later re-integrated under Oppo’s umbrella to streamline global strategy and resource allocation.
Industry reports suggest that combining OnePlus and Realme could help Oppo optimise supply chains, unify R&D efforts, and strengthen global market positioning. Earlier restructuring efforts have already shown improvements in market share growth across several regions.
Concerns around OnePlus’s India operations surfaced earlier this year following leadership changes, including the resignation of India CEO Robin Liu. However, the company has maintained that operations remain stable, with continuity in local strategy. The latest reported merger signals a broader consolidation trend within Oppo’s sub-brand structure.
