According to news, Sumit Walia, Oppo India’s Vice President of Product and Marketing has resigned from the post after completing a year with the company.
At Oppo India, Walia was responsible for building and growing the brand in the highly-competitive mobile handset space in the country. Before joining Oppo, he worked with multiple leading brands managing diverse portfolios for Samsung, Huawei, LG Electronics, and Videocon.
Oppo India said in a statement, "Sumit Walia has decided to take the next step in his professional career and part ways with OPPO. We thank Sumit for his relentless service and leadership at OPPO India and wish him all the best for his future endeavours."
Oppo, which makes phones for Realme and OnePlus, has been facing issues in the market since the lockdown, and it had to shut the factory after employees tested positive for the Covid-19 virus. Oppo had to resort to imports of some smartphone models into India as its local plants struggle to get back to production levels needed to meet demand.
Oppo and Vivo are yet to register for India’s ambitious production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for manufacturing, even though the likes of Apple phone makers Foxconn and Wistron, besides local manufacturers such as Dixon, Lava and Karbonn have done so.
