Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the GST Bachat Utsav (GST Savings Festival), urging citizens to support Swadeshi products and strengthen India’s path toward self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat). In his Navaratri greetings to the nation, PM Modi highlighted the rollout of Next-Generation GST reforms from September 22, which aim to reduce household expenses, simplify GST compliance, and promote economic growth across all sections of society.
According to PM Modi, these reforms will directly benefit farmers, women, youth, traders, MSMEs, entrepreneurs, and the middle class. By lowering taxes on essentials, the new system will make everyday living more affordable.

Two primary GST slabs: 5% and 18%.
Essentials like food, medicines, soap, toothpaste, and insurance will either be tax-free or under the 5% slab.
Many items previously taxed at 12% are now reduced to 5%.
Shopkeepers and traders are displaying “then and now” boards to show customers reduced prices.
PM Modi stressed that small businesses, MSMEs, and local traders will benefit the most through simpler compliance rules and lower taxes, thereby boosting ease of doing business.

Connecting the reforms with his vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, PM Modi emphasized the importance of Swadeshi products and local manufacturing. He urged citizens to proudly say, “What we buy is Swadeshi. What we sell is Swadeshi.”
He also called on state governments to improve investment conditions and encourage industries to create jobs. Concluding his message, PM Modi wished the nation a joyous Navaratri and expressed hope that the GST Savings Festival will bring happiness, prosperity, and greater savings to every Indian household.
