Navneet Kumar Sehgal, Chairman of Prasar Bharati and a retired IAS officer of the 1988 Uttar Pradesh cadre, has stepped down from his position. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has formally accepted his resignation in accordance with Section 7(6) of the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990, which governs appointments and resignations of senior officials within India’s public broadcasting system.
Mr. Sehgal was appointed Chairman of Prasar Bharati—the parent body of Doordarshan and All India Radio—on March 16, 2024, succeeding the previous leadership amidst ongoing organisational restructuring and digital transformation initiatives. His tenure, though brief, came at a time when Prasar Bharati was expanding its digital footprint, modernising broadcast infrastructure, and strengthening content distribution across domestic and international audiences.
A seasoned administrator, Sehgal served in various key roles in the Uttar Pradesh government before retiring from the IAS. His leadership experience spanned industries, culture, MSME development, and public communications—bringing a diverse background to India’s largest public service broadcaster.
The Ministry has not yet announced a successor. Until a new chairperson is appointed, the functioning of the Prasar Bharati Board will continue under existing administrative protocols.
Sehgal’s resignation marks a significant development for the broadcaster as it navigates rapid technological shifts, rising global competition, and evolving public service media expectations.
