President Murmu highlighted the role of AI in the Indian Defence
She called on policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators to work collaboratively, stating, “The future of warfare and national security will be defined by how well we embrace and integrate technology.”

President Droupadi Murmu underscored India’s commitment to leveraging emerging technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of its defence systems. She highlighted the need for personnel of armed forces to stay updated on the latest technological advancements and points to the increasing prevalence of hybrid warfare, including psychological operations.

Speaking at a ceremony at College of Defence Management (CDM-Secunderabad), where the institute was awarded the President’s Colours, she highlighted the evolving nature of warfare and the importance of innovation and strategic foresight in the defence sector. She noted that AI, alongside advancements such as robotics, quantum computing, and cyber defence, is reshaping the global defence landscape. She highlighted how these technologies are not only enhancing operational efficiency but also enabling real-time decision-making, predictive analysis, and strategic planning for defence forces.

"Technology is the new battleground," she remarked, stressing that India must remain at the forefront of these innovations to safeguard its sovereignty. The government’s focus, she explained, is on fostering indigenous capabilities through partnerships with startups, research institutions, and the private sector. Initiatives such as the Defence AI Council and Mission DefSpace are examples of India's efforts to integrate AI and emerging technologies into defence applications. These programs aim to bolster research and development, promote innovation, and strengthen the collaboration between the defence sector and the tech industry.

President Murmu also addressed the ethical challenges and security concerns associated with the deployment of advanced technologies in defence. She called for the establishment of robust regulatory frameworks and global cooperation to ensure responsible use and mitigate risks such as cyberattacks, data breaches, and misuse of AI-powered systems.

In conclusion, President Murmu reaffirmed the nation’s resolve to harness the transformative potential of AI and emerging technologies. Her address served as a clarion call for India to not only keep pace with global advancements but to lead in the development and deployment of cutting-edge defence technologies.
