Department of Telecom (DoT) has appointed R. Chandrashekhar as its new Secretary. Before taking on this task, Chandrashekhar was the former Secretary of Department of Information Technology (DIT) and has been associated with the Telecom Ministry since 2002. His appointment has been confirmed last week.
Additionally, the new Secretary carries over 15 years of direct experience in the field of IT at both the State and the Central Government. A 1975 batch Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer, Chandrashekhar has been the driving force behind formulation of national policies, agendas, strategies and action plans for e-Governance in the country.
Chandrashekhar is also said to be facing tough challenges ahead, given the Department's sinking image and morale. His task ranges between working with Telecom Minister A. Raja who faces a Supreme Court enquiry and a Department which is beset with many unavoidable problems.
