Reliance Industries plans to increase its Battery Gigafactory target to 120 GWh per annum
At the 49th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Reliance Industries’ Director Anant Ambani has announced that the company is planning to increase the battery energy storage system (BESS) and cell manufacturing capacity to 120 GWh per year.
Ambani said the first phase of Reliance's 40 GWh annual BESS and Cell Gigafactory remains on schedule for commissioning later this year.
According to Ambani, all critical equipment for the first phase of the gigafactory has already been delivered to the site. Building on the project's progress, Reliance has decided to triple the facility's annual capacity from 40 GWh to 120 GWh annually.
Once fully operational, the company is expected to become one of the world’s largest lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery manufacturers. It is a technology widely deployed in electric vehicles and renewable energy storage applications.

The expansion forms a key pillar of Reliance's broader new energy strategy, which focuses on developing large-scale clean energy generation and energy storage infrastructure in India.
The company has also announced that its solar photovoltaic (PV) cell and module manufacturing lines have been successfully commissioned and are now operational.
The company has already produced nearly 1 GW of heterojunction technology (HJT) solar modules. According to Ambani, these modules deliver around 2 per cent higher energy yield, 15 per cent better temperature performance and 25 per cent lower degradation compared with conventional solar modules.
In another milestone, Reliance has secured ALMM certification for HJT technology, becoming the first company in India to achieve this recognition for the advanced solar cell platform.
The company is progressing toward its goal of establishing 20 GW per annum of fully integrated solar manufacturing capacity, covering the entire value chain—from polysilicon, ingots and wafers to cells, modules and glass. Ambani noted that the initiative aligns with the government's Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat objectives while strengthening India's renewable energy manufacturing and energy security capabilities.
