Siemens bags contract for Gurgaon’s Southern Metro Line
A group comprising Siemens, Siemens AG and Siemens China has announced winning an order for a turnkey project worth approximately 70 million Euros from IL&FS Rail (a subsidiary of Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services). The share of the order value for Siemens is Rs.184.1 crore. This project involves extension of the Gurgaon Metro line with a new southern line, which is around seven kilometres long. The new line will add six stations in the south-east of Gurgaon.
We are confident that this project will become a benchmark in the public transportation sector. Hence, we have chosen to partner with Siemens, based on our good experiences on the on-going project and their globally proven technologies, said Sanjiv Rai, CEO of IL&FS Rail.
Tilak Raj Seth, Executive Vice-President and Sector Cluster Lead, Infrastructure & Cities, South Asia, Siemens, said, Siemens has an important role in developing the transportation links to meet today's growing mobility needs. We are happy to be part of such a prestigious project where we can showcase our expertise and solutions for cities.
Approximately 7,600 commuters per hour are expected to travel on this route in a single direction. For the new section of the Gurgaon line, Siemens is delivering seven aluminium-bodied metro trains. This short headway will enable the metro trains to transport more than 30,000 passengers per hour.
To fully electrify the new line extension, Siemens will install a 750V DC traction power supply along with a third-rail system for current collection.
