Smart Phone to use in a Smarter way
New study finds that cell phone hackers can track your physical location without your knowledge: Using a cheap phone is vary dangerous, readily available equipment and no direct help from a service provider, hackers could listen to unencrypted broadcast messages from cell phone towers.
Be careful using hotspots and free WiFi:
* Be careful about what you do online when you’re using a hotspot or free WiFi. These networks are untrusted, meaning that it's possible that others could see what you're doing when you use them.
* Never do online shopping or internet banking on free WiFi.
* If you need to check your email, make sure you have two factor authentication set up first.
* Turn off WiFi and bluetooth on your phone while you’re not using them.
Keep an eye out for scams and phishing:
Watch out for scams and phishing attempts on your phone, either by SMS message or email. It’s sometimes easier to quickly respond to something on your phone than it is on any other device, but if you’re not sure about something, stop and check it first. Be cautious about clicking on links and attachments in SMS messages or in emails. If you’re not sure why a company’s asking you for information, contact them in another way - through their website, for example - to ask before you give out any personal details.
Remember to log out of your accounts:
As you know the hackers at work, a smartphone is a connected PC that fits in your pocket. So it’s not surprising that smartphone hackers use the same basic tactics that they use to extract information from PCs like, through the Bluetooth connection it can be hacked to provide access to your phone any time it’s turned on, even when it’s turned on but not in use.
Make sure you log out of personal accounts on your phone after paying anything or online shopping. If you stay logged in and someone steals your phone, they could get access to your account details, as well as your credit card information or bank accounts.
Lastly, do you want to guess how many times you pull out your smartphone each day? The number is startling. The average person checks their phone 80 -100 times per day, often to check those little red notifications on social media. Our addiction to the rectangle in our pockets is having serious effects on our brain, from reducing our attention span to spiking our blood pressure and even diminishing our intelligence.
