Tandem forays into Indian Market with Its Muscle Capital Approach
With the opening of a new office in Bangalore, Silicon Valley’s mobile industry accelerator, Tandem, has expanded its global reach in India. The fund aims to help Indian entrepreneurs, create and build mobile companies with a cross-border approach.
Tandem has officially set up its “muscle capital” approach in India, with the help of Rohit Bhagat (who previously was Chairman, Asia-Pacific at BlackRock, Global COO of Barclays Global Investors and Managing Director of The Boston Consulting Group, India). He joined Tandem as a Partner to drive the scale and globalize the footprint of the firm and its portfolio companies. To further assist in this regard, Indian entrepreneurs Ranjan Pai and Mohandas Pai will also be joining Tandem as Partners.
Ranjan Pai, Head of Manipal Education & Medical Group, said, “There are thousands of promising entrepreneurs in India who need guidance and support. We are thrilled to bring the incredible success Tandem has had in building disruptive companies in the US to India.”
With this approach, Tandem plans to back 10–20 Indian start-ups over the next year and tighten their ties to Silicon Valley.
