Breaking News
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has said that nearly 50% of its internal job allocations are now being handled through an artificial intelligence-driven talent marketplace, signalling a shift in how employees are assigned to projects within the organisation.
The company disclosed the development during its recent earnings update, highlighting the growing role of AI across its human resources and operational functions. The platform uses AI-based recommendations to match employees with project requirements, replacing parts of a process that was traditionally managed by staffing teams and supervisors.
Internal job allocations play a critical role in shaping employee careers, influencing factors such as promotions, compensation growth, skill development, and long-term opportunities within the company.
AI Reshaping Workforce Management
Large IT services firms like TCS routinely move employees across projects based on client demand, deadlines, and technical requirements. With the integration of AI, this process is becoming more data-driven and efficient.
According to the company, the internal talent marketplace analyses demand and available skills to recommend suitable candidates for projects. This has helped speed up deployment and improve workforce utilisation.
As of March 2026, TCS reported a total workforce of 584,519 employees. The company added over 2,000 employees during the fourth quarter, while its attrition rate rose to 13.7%.
Broader Push Towards AI Integration
The move forms part of TCS’ wider strategy to embed AI across business functions, including hiring, training, and employee support systems. The company is increasingly using technology to streamline operations as clients shift spending towards digital and AI-led initiatives.
For employees, faster and more accurate project matching could reduce idle time between assignments and provide better exposure to relevant work. For the company, improved allocation efficiency can support delivery timelines and operational margins.
Industry observers note that the next phase of AI adoption could see such systems play a larger role in career progression decisions, moving beyond recommendations to more autonomous workforce management tools.
As AI continues to evolve, TCS’ approach reflects a broader trend across the IT services sector, where automation is becoming central to both productivity and talent management strategies.
