Tech Mahindra has announced to go plastic free with its ‘Don’t Be Plastic’ campaign. Tech Mahindra has banned single use plastic across its campuses globally.
The organization is also giving biodegradable bags in exchange of the plastic bags to associates across locations. On the launch day itself, 200+Kilograms of single use plastic was collected across 40 locations and given to NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) for recycling. Additionally, all the plastic containers being earlier used in Tech Mahindra cafeterias have been replaced as well.
CP Gurnani, MD & CEO, Tech Mahindra, says, “Minimizing the use of plastic is the need of the hour. It is time to recharge our planet to create a greener world. I urge one and all to join and support this campaign to create a sustainable future.”
In line with Tech Mahindra’s overall sustainability agenda, associates across Indian campuses celebrated the 73rd Independence Day with eco-friendly National Flags, made of cotton fibre. These paper seed flags were infused with organic seeds of tomato and basil to represent the saffron and green of the Indian tri-color, and were re-used for plantation by associates. Additionally, all Tech Mahindra campuses globally have become ‘no smoking zones’.
Harshvendra Soin, Chief People Officer, Tech Mahindra, says, “As a ‘company with a purpose’, we at Tech Mahindra are focused on building a safe and sustainable environment for our associates. Our campaigns, like ‘don’t be plastic’, are in line with this ethos, and provide an opportunity to our associates to drive Individual Social Responsibility (ISR),and create a multiplier effect in creating a sustainable society.”
