Vi has announced the launch of an AI and ML-powered spam management solution aimed at protecting its users from spam messages. The new system, which will proactively detect and flag potential spam, is designed to provide a secure and clutter-free mobile experience. Since its testing phase, the solution has already flagged over 24 million spam messages.
With spam messages increasingly being used as gateways to fraud, Vi's new SMS spam solution will help safeguard customers by identifying and managing unsolicited and potentially harmful messages in real time. The solution is part of Vi’s ongoing commitment to ensuring user safety and enhancing the mobile experience.
Jagbir Singh, CTO of Vodafone Idea, said, “As more customers embrace digital communication, we recognize the growing threat posed by SMS based spams and potential scam attempts. Our AI-powered spam detection technology reinforces our commitment to customer safety by delivering proactive, real-time protection. Vi is focused on staying ahead of these threats and empowering customers with information to make their mobile experience safer.”
The new solution builds on Vi’s broader effort to combat spam across different communication channels, including voice calls. In addition to the new spam detection feature, Vi has implemented several other measures, such as a user-friendly mobile app for filing spam complaints and the use of UCC (Unsolicited Commercial Communication) detection to curb abusive call patterns.
Vi is also running customer education campaigns to raise awareness about phishing attempts and promote safe communication practices.
The AI-based SMS solution works by analyzing incoming messages in real time, identifying suspicious patterns such as phishing links, fraudulent promotions, and unusual sender details. Flagged messages will be marked as ‘Suspected Spam,’ alerting users to potential threats. The system continues to improve by learning from new data, ensuring it adapts to emerging spam trends and enhances its detection capabilities over time.
