Visa launches AI financial assistant for banks as consumers turn to generative AI for money advice
2026-07-15
Visa has launched an AI-powered financial assistant that banks can embed into their mobile applications, aiming to help financial institutions capitalize on growing consumer use of generative AI for financial advice while keeping customer interactions within their own digital channels.
The AI Financial Assistant provides a conversational interface that enables customers to analyze spending, receive personalized financial insights, and perform banking tasks such as locking payment cards and setting alerts without leaving their banking app.
The launch comes as consumers increasingly rely on generative AI for financial guidance. Citing its own research, Visa said more than 66% of Americans who have used generative AI are already turning to the technology for financial advice. At the same time, banks remain the most trusted organizations to safeguard personal financial data, with 85% of consumers saying they would be willing to share additional data if it delivers clear AI-driven value.
At launch, the assistant will proactively generate monthly spending summaries, answer natural-language questions based on a customer's card transaction history, and enable users to take actions—including locking a card or configuring account alerts—directly within the conversation.
Rather than operating as a standalone consumer chatbot, the service is designed as a value-added capability that banks can integrate into their existing mobile applications, allowing financial institutions to offer AI-powered customer experiences while retaining control over customer relationships and data.
"Consumers are already turning to AI for financial advice—but banks have the full financial picture, can act on it, and are among the most trusted institutions consumers rely on," Michele Herron, senior vice president and head of North America Value-Added Services at Visa, said in a statement.
"AI Financial Assistant brings those strengths together, combining personalized insights based on a consumer's own data and pairing it with the ability to act, all right within their bank's app," Herron said.
The offering reflects a broader push across the financial services industry to embed generative AI into customer-facing applications, as banks seek to deliver personalized digital experiences while responding to growing competition from standalone AI assistants. By integrating conversational AI directly into banking apps, Visa is positioning financial institutions to offer AI-powered financial guidance without requiring customers to share sensitive financial information with third-party AI platforms.
