VMware acquires Intrinsic to Expand the cloud Portfolio
VMware leader into the enterprise mobility software space, continues to incorporate cloud technologies in its business with the acquisition of Security Startup Intrinsic, a San Francisco serverless computing start-up. Intrinsic was founded in 2015 and was formerly known as GitStar. The start-up has about 10 employees.
Serverless computing is an increasingly popular approach in cloud computing that involves automatically triggering a system to operate when certain things happen. Intrinsic secures sensitive data from bugs and untrusted code, allowing users to run all code (even malicious code!) safely. Intrinsic is an application runtime security technology for Node.js.
Earlier in this year in a conference VMware said, the company’s strategy to help organizations turn the advantage from attackers to defenders with a new security approach that focuses on applications more than infrastructure, and shrinks the attack surface rather than chasing threats. With a broadening portfolio of software-based solutions that span the cloud to the end user, VMware makes security intrinsic to the infrastructure so customers can lock down the known good behavior of applications and significantly reduce the risk to critical applications, sensitive data, and users.
To expand the cloud solution and security portfolio, VMware also acquired Bitnami in this year May, a package application company, as part of the expansion of its cloud-based services. With this recent acquisition of Intrinsic’s software, which works with Amazon and Microsoft public-cloud services.
Now, Vmware could will go extra mile to address various opportunities by helping software developers securely tap serverless computing, an increasingly popular approach that involves automatically triggering a system to operate when certain things happen.
Last but not the least, this acquisition brings us unique expertise and technology as we look to expand our VMware AppDefense platform into the public cloud
