WhatsApp introduces smarter group chat tools with timed polls and instant group creation

The latest update brings enhanced poll controls, group-wide notifications and one-tap group creation, enabling users to manage discussions, share urgent updates and organise conversations more efficiently across personal, educational and workplace groups.

WhatsApp has rolled out a new set of features aimed at improving the way users interact in group conversations. The latest update introduces enhanced polling capabilities, a group-wide notification feature and a faster method to create new groups from existing chats, making communication more organised and efficient.

The new additions are designed to help users manage time-sensitive discussions, coordinate activities and ensure important announcements reach all participants without unnecessary delays. The update is expected to benefit communities, workplaces, schools, families and other groups that rely on WhatsApp for day-to-day communication.

Among the most notable changes is a major enhancement to the platform's polling feature. Users can now assign a deadline to polls, allowing voting to close automatically once the specified time expires. This eliminates the need for manual poll management and makes polls more suitable for scheduling meetings, planning events or making quick group decisions.

Polls become more flexible and secure

WhatsApp has also introduced additional privacy controls for polls. Poll creators now have the option to hide individual votes, ensuring that only the final results are visible to participants. In addition, poll questions can be edited within 15 minutes of creation, allowing users to correct errors or make changes shortly after publishing.

The messaging platform has also introduced a new feature that enables users to notify every member of a group through a single group-wide mention. Designed for urgent updates, the functionality helps ensure that important announcements are not missed, particularly in active group conversations where messages can quickly be overlooked.

According to WhatsApp, the feature is intended for situations such as schedule changes, event reminders, school or office announcements and other time-sensitive communications. In groups with up to 32 members, the ability to send group-wide mentions will be available only to eligible users, including administrators.

Easier group creation for focused discussions

Another addition simplifies the process of creating new conversations from existing groups. Rather than manually creating a fresh group and inviting participants one by one, users can now generate a new group that includes members from an existing chat with a single tap.

The feature is designed to support side discussions without disrupting the main conversation. It can be used for planning specific events, organising project teams, coordinating logistics or continuing detailed discussions in a separate space while keeping the original group focused.
