Meta is working on a new WhatsApp feature that will let iPhone users upload documents directly to Meta AI from the in-chat attachment menu. The assistant’s file support has been fairly limited so far for WhatsApp users who rely on Meta AI. Currently, users can either upload photos from the iPhone’s gallery or take a new one from within the chat. However, Meta AI still lags behind other AI-powered assistants that allow users to upload documents and ask questions about the file.
Based on WhatsApp beta for iOS 26.20.10.72, available through TestFlight, the app is now rolling out the ability to share documents with Meta AI to some beta testers.
The report first cited by WABetaInfo noted -
“Sharing a document with Meta AI can make it much easier to get accurate and relevant information. Instead of copying and pasting text or manually describing the content, users can simply share the file directly. This allows the AI to analyze the document in context to provide more targeted answers. If the document contains a problem or question, Meta AI can work through it step by step and offer a solution. Additionally, this improves the experience by making the interaction closer to how users already share documents in their chats and groups. Previously, users often had to take screenshots and send images to achieve a similar result. With document sharing, the interaction becomes faster and more accurate.”
The option reportedly appears in the in-chat attachment menu, allowing users to send files directly to Meta AI without copying and pasting text or relying on screenshots.
WABetaInfo notes that the feature “is available to some beta testers,” adding that “it is rolling out to more users over the coming weeks.”
