Zoom has announced a series of new artificial intelligence features, including AI-powered avatars that can represent users in virtual meetings, as the company expands its push into AI-driven workplace tools.
The company said the new avatars, which are expected to be available later this month, are designed to mimic a user’s appearance, facial expressions and lip movements. The feature allows participants to appear in meetings even when they are not on camera. Zoom said the avatars will also work within its asynchronous video messaging platform, offering users more flexibility in how they communicate.
The technology aims to replicate realistic visual behaviour during meetings, enabling users to maintain a presence without actively appearing on screen. To address concerns around misuse of synthetic media, Zoom is also introducing a deepfake detection capability that can alert meeting participants if potential audio or video impersonation is detected.
AI office tools and collaboration features
Alongside the avatars, Zoom is expanding its software ecosystem with a new suite of AI-powered productivity applications, including AI Docs, AI Slides and AI Sheets. These tools are designed to help users automatically generate documents, presentations and spreadsheets using meeting transcripts and information from connected services.
The company said the applications will be released in preview later this year. As part of the update, Zoom is also bringing its upgraded AI assistant, AI Companion 3.0, to its desktop platform after launching it earlier on the web. According to the company, usage of the assistant has grown significantly, with monthly active users more than tripling during the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026 compared with the previous year.
Zoom’s employee communication platform Workvivo will also receive an integrated AI assistant. The assistant will connect with widely used workplace platforms such as Slack, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Gmail, Microsoft Outlook, Asana and Jira, enabling users to search information and perform tasks across multiple enterprise tools.
Push toward AI agents and developer tools
Zoom is also introducing an AI agent builder designed to allow users without technical expertise to create custom agents using natural language prompts. These agents can be integrated into chats and workflows to automate tasks and retrieve information.
For developers, the company is making its speech recognition, computer vision and language intelligence APIs available for deployment either in the cloud or on-premise environments.
The company is additionally improving its messaging experience with AI features that summarise conversations and highlight key discussion points. Zoom said it also plans to unify the design across its desktop, mobile and web applications to provide easier access to AI-driven tools such as meeting summaries, notes and real-time transcription.
