AWS has introduced new capabilities across Amazon Bedrock, Kiro and Strands Agents, enabling developers to build enterprise AI applications through structured workflows, enhanced model access and agentic development tools designed for scalable software delivery.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has strengthened its artificial intelligence portfolio with a series of enhancements across Amazon Bedrock, Kiro and Strands Agents, reinforcing its strategy of helping enterprises accelerate AI application development while improving software quality and governance.
The latest updates include support for OpenAI's GPT-5.6 models in Amazon Bedrock, new capabilities for the Kiro development environment and additional features for Strands Agents. Together, the offerings are aimed at simplifying the development of AI-powered enterprise applications by enabling developers to move beyond traditional code generation and adopt more structured software engineering practices.
AWS said the new capabilities are designed to support organisations building production-grade AI applications, where software development requires detailed planning, design validation and collaboration throughout the application lifecycle.
Focus on structured AI development
A key component of the announcement is the continued evolution of Kiro, AWS's agentic integrated development environment (IDE), which encourages developers to begin projects by defining business objectives and software requirements before generating code.
Unlike conventional AI coding assistants that primarily respond to prompts, Kiro follows a specification-driven approach. The platform helps generate requirement documents, technical designs and implementation plans, allowing development teams to review and refine each stage before software is built. This workflow is intended to improve transparency, reduce development errors and support enterprise governance requirements.
The enhancements also extend to Amazon Bedrock, AWS's fully managed service for building generative AI applications. By adding support for OpenAI's GPT-5.6 models, AWS is expanding the range of foundation models available to developers, enabling organisations to choose AI models that best suit their business requirements while continuing to build applications within the AWS ecosystem.
Meanwhile, updates to Strands Agents are expected to strengthen the development of autonomous AI agents capable of executing multi-step workflows, supporting a growing number of enterprise automation and decision-making use cases.
Industry observers believe these enhancements reflect the growing shift from experimental AI projects to enterprise deployments that require stronger controls, scalability and operational reliability.
Growing enterprise adoption drives AI innovation
The expanded AI portfolio comes as enterprises increasingly integrate generative AI into customer service, software engineering, business analytics and operational workflows. As organisations scale AI deployments, demand is rising for platforms that combine model access with structured development processes and built-in governance capabilities.
AWS has also been encouraging developers to experiment with agentic AI through initiatives such as AIdeas 10,000, a global innovation challenge showcasing AI applications built using Kiro and AWS cloud services. The programme attracted participants from more than 115 countries, with projects spanning healthcare, education, sustainability and enterprise software.
One of the notable entries, Veloquity, developed by an Indian engineering student, demonstrated how agentic AI can analyse large volumes of enterprise information to support faster and more informed decision-making. The project also highlighted the growing role of AI in sectors such as healthcare, where intelligent systems can help organisations process patient feedback, identify operational bottlenecks and improve service delivery.
India continues to be a key market in AWS's global developer strategy. Since 2017, the company has trained more than 10 million people in cloud computing through online learning programmes, community initiatives and instructor-led training. With enterprises accelerating investments in artificial intelligence, AWS expects demand for AI development tools and cloud-based software platforms to continue growing, positioning its latest enhancements as part of a broader effort to support the next generation of enterprise software development.
