BSNL is set to introduce BSNL Pay, a digital payment service integrated within its Selfcare app that will be powered by BHIM UPI. The service will enable users to recharge, pay bills, and transfer money seamlessly. BSNL Pay, unlike other payment apps, will be built directly into the telco’s existing ecosystem, promising secure, swift, and smart transactions for millions of subscribers.
“BSNL Pay – Coming Soon! A new digital step by BSNL. Now UPI payments will be Secure | Swift | Smart, directly through BSNL Selfcare App, powered by BHIM,” said a post by BSNL UP (East) Circle twitter handle.
BSNL’s upcoming digital leap comes on the back of a remarkable financial turnaround.
In 18 years, the company has for the first time reported consecutive profitable quarters. It posted a net profit of ₹262 crores in Q3 FY25, followed by ₹280 crores in Q4 FY25. This contrasts sharply with the ₹849 crore loss during the same quarter last year.
Union telecom minister Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted the milestone, stating, “Back-to-back quarterly net profits, not just operating margins, for the first time since 2007.”
BSNL’s annual loss has now gone down to ₹2,247 crores in FY25, nearly halving from ₹5,370.
BSNL, however, has not announced any formal date for the launch of its payment app.
