
Senior bureaucrat Vikram Dev Dutt has been appointed as the Chairman and Managing Director of Air India Ltd succeeding Union Aviation Secretary Rajiv Bansal, who was appointed AI CMD in August 2017, holding additional charge of the airline after being elevated in last September.
Dutt is a 1993-batch IAS officer of AGMUT cadre. Earlier, he was serving as Principal Secretary in Delhi government’s health and family welfare and later in the services department.
Dutt's appointment comes nearly a month after the Competition Commission approved Tata Group's proposed acquisition of Air India, Air India Express, and AISATS.
Ashish Srivastava, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development will now be Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
An order issued by the Personnel Ministry also informed that Chanchal Kumar, a 1992 batch IAS officer of Bihar cadre, has been appointed as Managing Director of National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. Kumar is at present principal secretary to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Previously it was reported that Tata Sons is considering hiring several key executives for Air India. Among the potential hires is Fred Reid, a former Executive with Virgin America Inc. and AirBnb Inc. Reid is expected to be the Air India CEO.
