Gartner predicts Earth Intelligence—using satellite data and AI for industry insights—will grow from $3.8 billion in 2025 to over $4.2 billion by 2030, with enterprises surpassing governments as the primary users by decade’s end
Technology and service providers are poised to unlock nearly $20 billion in new revenue from Earth Intelligence between 2025 and 2030, according to a recent forecast by research firm Gartner. The growing field, which involves applying artificial intelligence (AI) to Earth observation data, is expected to see rapid expansion across industries as demand shifts from public to private sectors.
Earth Intelligence refers to the process of collecting, transforming, and analyzing Earth observation data—often via satellites—to generate industry-specific insights using AI-powered models and tools. Gartner projects that annual revenue from Earth Intelligence will grow from approximately $3.8 billion in 2025 to more than $4.2 billion by 2030.
The Stamford-headquartered analyst firm highlighted that enterprises will overtake governments and military agencies as the primary consumers of Earth Intelligence services by the end of the decade. In 2024, less than 15% of spending came from private enterprises. By 2030, that figure is expected to exceed 50%.
Earth Intelligence powers enterprise decisions
Gartner Distinguished VP Analyst Bill Ray emphasized the practical value of Earth Intelligence, noting its use in real-time decision-making. “Vendors are using satellite data to identify storm damage to railways, monitor temperatures in metal refineries to track production, analyze traffic via vehicle counts, and even assess global shipping activity by tracking sea cargo,” Ray explained.
The firm noted that while most Earth observation data is still gathered and analyzed by government agencies, this is changing rapidly. Technological advancements and increasing commercial availability of satellite data are enabling businesses to integrate Earth Intelligence into operational and strategic workflows.
As organizations seek to leverage geospatial insights for everything from supply chain optimization to environmental monitoring, Gartner sees a broad and accelerating market opportunity for tech vendors, AI developers, and analytics service providers.
With enterprises expected to become the dominant drivers of demand, Earth Intelligence is set to become a transformative force across multiple sectors over the next five years.
