The removal of the Collect Request feature aims to reduce online fraud while maintaining the ease and convenience of UPI transactions, ensuring safer digital payments and continued support for India’s rapidly growing digital economy
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced a significant update to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system, affecting millions of users of apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm. Starting today, the popular P2P ‘Collect Request’ feature—also known as Pull Transactions—will be discontinued across all UPI platforms. This means users will no longer be able to send or receive money requests through this method.
Why is the P2P Collect Request being discontinued?
The decision comes amid growing concerns over online security and fraud. NPCI noted that the Collect Request feature has often been exploited by fraudsters to trick users into sending money unknowingly. Many victims reportedly accepted payment requests without verifying their authenticity, leading to financial losses. By removing this feature, NPCI aims to make UPI transactions safer and more secure for users across the country.
What will change for UPI users?
From October 1 onwards, users who want to transfer money will need to rely on the ‘Push Transaction’ method, where money is sent directly from one account to another without needing a payment request. Payments using QR codes, UPI IDs, or bank account numbers will remain unaffected and continue as usual.
UPI apps and banks are already updating their systems to comply with this new rule to ensure smooth transactions for customers. Users are advised to keep their apps updated to avoid disruptions.
Important tips for users
· Never accept or approve payment requests from unknown contacts.
· Normal sending and receiving of money will continue without interruption.
· Always double-check transaction details before approving payments.
This move is expected to reduce online fraud and make digital payments safer for all users. While the Collect Request feature is being removed, the overall ease and convenience of UPI transactions will remain intact, supporting India’s growing digital economy.
