AI - displacing the job market
2025-09-19
The wave of tech layoffs in 2025 shows no sign of slowing, with over 1.3 lakh jobs cut across 437 firms, averaging 627 a day.
Companies including Microsoft, Salesforce, Oracle, TCS, Intel, Meta, Google, and Amazon are slashing roles as they restructure around AI-led efficiency.
Microsoft has been the most aggressive, eliminating over 15,000 jobs since May, despite strong revenue growth, as it redirects more than $80 billion into AI infrastructure.
Salesforce and Oracle have also announced hundreds of cuts in the U.S., directly tied to Salesforce’s AI platform Agentforce, which now handles millions of support cases.
In India, TCS confirmed plans to cut 12,000 jobs—about 2% of its workforce—citing the need to build a “future-ready” organization focused on AI and next-gen infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Intel is undergoing one of the deepest reductions, planning to axe upto 25,000 employees by year-end.
Meta, Google, and Amazon continue to trim staff across engineering, sales, cloud, and marketing as they pivot to AI-first strategies.
Startups and mid-size firms like Scale AI and CrowdStrike have also reduced headcount.
The underlying theme is clear: AI is automating workflows, cutting costs, and reshaping the workforce across global tech.
