In an effort to strengthen cybersecurity awareness and online safety, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs has teamed up with Amazon India to launch the #ScamSmartIndia anti-scam campaign ahead of the festive season. With online shopping frauds, digital scams, and e-commerce fraud on the rise, this initiative focuses on educating consumers about scam prevention, fraud detection, and secure digital practices.
The nationwide anti-fraud campaign aims to spread scam literacy through multiple channels—social media advisories, consumer awareness workshops, informative flyers in Amazon shopping deliveries, and real-time tips under the Scam-Free September initiative. By providing cyber safety guidelines, the program helps shoppers learn how to identify phishing attacks, fake websites, and online scams, empowering them to protect themselves while shopping online.
“Festive shopping is a joyous time, but it also brings a surge in fraudulent activities,” said Nishant Kumar, Director, I4C. “Through this partnership, we aim to equip consumers with the knowledge and tools needed to safeguard themselves from scams.”

As part of the campaign, I4C and Amazon India are also hosting a national hackathon to develop cutting-edge AI-powered fraud detection tools, contributing to the fight against financial fraud and identity theft. The campaign specifically targets first-time internet users, senior citizens, and vulnerable communities, who are often the most susceptible to scams.
Rakesh Bakshi, Vice President – Legal at Amazon India, emphasized, “Scammers exploiting trusted brand names erode consumer confidence. Our goal is to create practical solutions, educate users on fraud prevention, and encourage responsible online behavior.”
With over half of India’s fraud cases being online, this campaign reinforces the importance of digital security, e-commerce safety, and consumer protection. It builds on Amazon’s ongoing efforts to promote cyber hygiene, safe shopping experiences, and financial fraud prevention across the country. For more information, users can visit Amazon’s safety portal and I4C’s official website for resources on online scam alerts, fraud awareness, and cybercrime reporting. Together, this partnership aims to make festive shopping safer for millions of Indians.
